Having been on the run and entirely nude, exposed, and vulnerable to the elements has left Hannah in a very depressive state, especially since choosing to cut her hair to reduce it getting in her eyes. Her poncho that has been with her through thick and thin got caught on some thorny bushes and was torn from her body. One hole and one tear too many made the original purpose of the cloak obsolete.
Hannah decided to repurpose the garment into a make-shift loincloth, top, bandages, and footwear as she continues her escape. to at least preserve some measure of modesty as she continues her escape. Sadly, in order to secure the garment Hannah was left with little choice but to use her own hair to make an emergency cord or rope as there were no suitable vines available in this environment. Cutting her hair is not something Hannah is very pleased with, among many other things such as her vulnerable nude state, lack of adequate footwear and the many cuts and scrapes all about her body.
Fortunately, Hannah was able to steal a dropped survival pack from her pursuers and use it to help remedy her wounds. With no immediate danger, maybe now is a good time to find something to eat!

It doesn't help that the chastity belt still vibrates occasionally only fueling her lust and need to obtain relief of some kind. No! Hannah must remain focused on her task on escaping and resist the temptation even for brief reprieve or pleasure. She must resist!

Stormwave's new job: Zerukmo
“Jeez, you new villains are losing quality.” Stormwave laughed as she dodged, characteristically overconfident.
She always was like this, mocking and playing as she weaved between the beehive of crisscrossed lasers. Her eyes never seemed to leave the next target as she dropped to the right and punched or slipped to her left for a sweep. Every shot fired hit a place she had been a fragmented second before, striking the ground a hair’s breadth from flesh. Booted feet struck the ground as she continued her dance between life and death, crossing the razor’s edge time and again as she threw off the aim of her nearest attacker. Sometimes she moved forward so as to place one gunbot between her and another, others letting the iridescent bolts crash against the once-beautiful benches of the now utterly destroyed shopping plaza.
Simply put, she was everywhere at once.
“Submit to synthetic rule!” the largest of the machines shouted at her, voice tinny and echo-y. Like some text-to-speech program from an olden time, predating the vixen they now sought to kill. Really, it was awful. “And you might be spared!”
“How old ARE you?” she shouted after vaulting a handrail from the second floor. Glass shards followed her descent as it exploded. “Pretty sure my granddad watched that movie!”
The machine was the tenth one to join the scrap pile as her electrified fist struck against its crafted torso. Her eyes narrowed as she felt the battery bank within react to the impact. That little flash of light was enough for her to rip more of the coursing power away and onto her fist. It deprived the starving wires of animation providing energy to instead arc its sparking tide over her entire form. A wave of tingles came from nerves forcibly brought online as it fell, deactivated and unmoving. Small bits of pain sparked as the muscles contracted a tiny bit before the roughshod surge could be brought to command.
It always felt that way. Every time.
“Bang.” was all she said, pointing towards the farthest back machine. It had to be the leader, she surmised with the best of logic. Big equals command. It also talked more than the rest and seemed to have more than ‘detonate’ programmed. By the same chain of fantastic intelligence that came from watching sci-fi movies, Stormwave reasoned that if she could just enact some ultra-violence on the most important piece in the formation, the rest would turn off. Every video game, show, and film she had ever watched proved this amazing hypothesis.
And all it would take was a single bolt of pilfered lightning, fired like a gun by a child.
“Surren-” and then it exploded, taking the world with it in a burst of white light.

Small flickers of awareness came to the fore as Zyla struggled through a haze of nothingness. The world felt dark and devoid of anything she could grasp, like the lights were out and so were all of her other senses. She floated for a brief instant that seemed to stretch into infinity, a person lacking a persona. It wasn’t the pain that she expected from [Error rejected] nor was it the exhaustion of [Error rejected], but…
What was she thinking about?

Memories seemed to come online as unreadable words echoed through the sensory deprived girl’s mind. She knew something happened and could sense an imperative behind the unseen yet couldn’t put a finger on it. Every time her mind strayed away from the emptiness of her situation and tried to fight through this endless haze of empty paths, something just grasped at her and pulled her back. Trying to move, to speak, to even look at the world she had to find herself in was reduced to red lights and locked doors. She couldn’t even picture those anymore, not when intangible lines grasped her imagined self and pulled her back in.

The thought vanished as the process continued through her unmoving form even as the world came into sudden, bright, and painless clarity.
It wasn’t like Zyla [CORRECTION] ZY-900-G had just opened her eyes or anything but instead the world hadn’t been there a second ago and now was. Tiny circles appeared before her vision with incredible speed and rattled off innumerable features of the world arrayed before her. Details of the room and how long it was, how many things called ‘ZERUPODS’ were placed down the properly lit hall as it descended towards the horizon, and even the tensile strength of the plexiglass wall separating her from the rest of the world. It came so fast, so rapidly, that her
conscious mind failed to comprehend even half of it before it vanished into the subconscious. Working memory was enough for her to know what, but not why.
Still, she wanted to move, to free herself and- [REJECTED. STARTUP INCOMPLETE].
And so she stayed still, unmoving. Barely thinking.

“Oh, this unit can move?” ZY said suddenly, her voice sounding shockingly familiar and yet not. Like it was totally hers, absolutely, but there was some strange and ethereal perfection to it. Not like [REJECTED. Unit requests information.] had… been…
“What is-” she tried to ask before feeling that same rejection. The thought itself, the very attempt to think in such a blunt way, was sheared off before she could even finish the question. A nudge in her mind that felt indirect yet distinctly targeted pushed her to try again. “Where am-”
[DISCARDED]. No reason stated in her inner thought brain thing, but she could tell it was just asked wrong. Given incorrectly. Not the right kind of way to want something.
[ORDERS: Begin patrol of city center. ZY-900-G will provide support for peace
and prosperity. Confirm.]

ZY paused for a moment as her head… didn’t so much hurt but just swam with confusion. Pathways of thought appeared before her like a dialogue tree, a circle with lines branching towards infinity. Every time she tried to follow one of her own choice, like the questions given before or defiance, it simply and abruptly ended. As if she had walked into a wall instead of actually thought it. Even the act of thinking felt strange; it was unlike reading where she could grasp the whole sentence but instead as if she had just been sent back. Rubber banding in some online game where the action had been rejected. Paths untaken were reduced to curled slips of emptiness and confusion.
‘Unit Confirms Orders.’ she eventually thought in irritation. The emotion itself brought a rejection in the base of her modified mind and was replaced with more of that glassy emptiness.
The plexiglass compound ahead moved with precision that stood beyond any machine ZY had ever seen before. A dotted path appeared on the ground as the program within her mind told her what steps to take, how long to go. It wasn’t overriding her free will so much as showing her the proper path, guiding her on a way down the hallway with even, unfaltering steps. Each movement was perfect and flawless, more deft and dexterous than she had been in… a time where she couldn’t remember. Some element of her tried to tell her about a past, a life that had once been. Something that mattered and would inform who she was.
But the system rejected it. Told her calmly that she lacked access. Hid the past and even the question, yet not the insistence. She wanted to know, wanted to see.
And still she walked down the hall, eyes forward and emotion unchanging. What was going on and just what was she?
A sense of strange discordance overtook ZY as she walked through the neon-lit city.

It walked through the gaps between glossy buildings as it lost track of what it meant to be a flesh and blood person. Memories of gender were locked as firmly as the rest of the past, hidden behind a glowing placard. All that could be gathered was that a past of some sort existed, that there had once been a person before the creation of ZY-900-G, but that any details were above its paygrade. The personality that had been crafted was still definitely its own, that much was for certain. Familiar and warm, like a warm glove on a cold night, but it still felt different. Something was wrong with those engrams as they popped up and vanished into the confused mind, again and again. Fireworks of thought, brilliant and then forgotten.

‘Unit… requests…’ that seemed to work as the thought wasn’t pared off. It had been trying for the last twenty minutes. ‘Unit requests… information. Information about unit.’
[Request confirmed] the words appeared once more in the mind as ZY continued to march through the city streets. These ones felt calmer, nicer. None of the harsh refusal that had been given so far. ‘Not exactly what Unit-’ [Discarded. Unit Emotions Corrected]
A warmth spread through ZY-900-G’s mind as it stepped around a corner, replacing the irritation once more with a purpose and calmness. It was a synthetic peace, one that the unit was fully aware was not what should be felt and yet incapable of being ignored. The artificial brain was inundated with the accursed sensations that kept it from struggling too hard against the bounds within which it was permitted to explore. The walls were there, visible and yet translucent enough to see what should lie beyond. There were so many questions to be asked and yet the words were erased before they were spoken.
ZY instead busied itself with trying to understand the world.
[Neurosentry] the Zerucore informed it as it saw one of the strange products floating around. A body with angular legs over a ball of anti-gravity. Curiosity was quickly sated as a flood of diagnostic and creative information filled in the missing gaps. Understanding was nearly instant as it watched the serial numbered thing float between two tables and lean down. Its unconnected arms moved to grasp a pair of plates and serve the two waiting patrons a meal that likely tasted great. Though the newly minted ZY was unable to taste with a mouth that refused to open, there was a residual sense of understanding that it would be wonderful food.
‘Unit requests information,’ ZY once more thought as it came to a fork. Two paths opened in the mind, left hand taken. Turn and walk. ‘Status of world.’
[Request Accepted] the Zerucore sent in response. ZY had been figuring out that this wasn’t in its own head. More like some central computer. Servers? [Zerukmo Systems has provided peace and stability across the world. All things are better as the Zerukmo Units provide the highest service. ZY-900-G is a product which will enhance stability and peace.]
‘What is-’ ZY actively shook its head a tiny bit at the rejection. Getting used to thinking this way was hard. How did the other units do it? ‘Information Request. Unit Status Prior to Activation.’
[Request Rejected; Access Denied.] simple and to the point.
‘Unit Requests Previous Name.’ [Access Denied]
‘This is bu-’ ZY narrowed its eyes as it watched several passers by ahead. The movements never stopped but the thought certainly did. ‘Unit is incapable of producing defiant language. Perameters…’
“Greetings, Civilian.” Unit ZY spoke in a cheery tone as the two revelers came on their way home from a night at a tavern. Flashes of understanding showed intoxication levels, hormonal levels, even where they had been. Just how much information was gathered from just a quick glance? A brief curiosity wondered if there was anything unknown for these humans. “Unit ZY-900-G hopes you are well.”
“Yeah, we’re…” one of them swayed faintly as he spoke, a man. Probably meeting his friends and just leaving. Data showed these two had extensive history together. “Doin’ just fine, Unit.”
A wheel of information overtook the thoughts; actions, options. Where and how were quickly answered the instant ZY tried to think of them. The entire bar crawl was written onto a digitized map in brilliant sapphire and black. It knew the night they had, how much to drink, everything. Questions about that were quickly rendered moot as the taverns were listed in order of how much drinking was done. Locations, distances, homes. Permissions on how to help and a database of crimes which could be committed while intoxicated.
“Would you care for Unit to call you a ride home? ZY-900-G could contact a local driver or your domestic Units, if they are available.” the unit grumbled internally about using its full designation. That was quickly erased. Defiant language was bad. And forbidden.
“Well, we can drive…”
The path of many became one; driving with this blood content would be illegal. There were crimes and punishments.
“Negative.” ZY took on a faint frown around the eyes, one that looked comforting. “That’s a” it wanted to say stupid but that was not allowed. Rudeness to civilians could only come in specific situations. Not now. “dangerous course of action. Unit ZY-900-G has called you a driver.”
What caught the unit off guard was the fact that it accessed the man’s bank account to do it. It was so simply that it was barely even a thought, a reaction that the Zerucore did automatically. Funds transferred to a driver, which went to another account. Streams of light were removed from the database and just placed somewhere else. How did it get that far already? This brilliant city, seemingly devoid of hunger and fear, and yet a Zerukmo could simply take money and command?
‘Unit Requests Information. Freedom.’
There was a pause at that query, unusual for the machine commanding ZY’s body. Its glowing green eyes went skyward at where it assumed the command units were, looking as if to interrogate them. Something about this all felt just a little wrong, incomplete. Memories of the past were forbidden yet a desire in the deepest recesses of the mind wanted to be…
Something else.
[Request Rejected; Order Update. Robbery Prevention.]
“Orders Confirmed.” Unit said out loud before giving a sigh. That was some emotion allowed. Not defiant to the orders. Interesting. “Proceeding.”
There was something both cathartic and familiar about kicking ass.
The orders seemed to shut the hell up as ZY was moving between the blasts of the rare criminal scum’s weaponry. Lasers that seemed to call back to something forbidden in the Zerukmo’s memory banks. Like the body had been used for fighting before, battling against chaos in a life that was no longer allowed. The step to the right was augmented by predictive programming of what happened on the left. Reflexes to avoid a gun were simple when there were a thousand protocols whirling through a processing core to tell probabilities and danger zones. Even the way it grabbed the closest wrist and twisted the weapon out was a move of its own decision, devoid of the controls which kept ZY-900-G on track until now.
This was the moment of freedom, the liminal space between safety and destruction. The danger was exciting in a way that the unit wished could pump blood.
No pain, no pulse, none of that ringing in the ears. Memories that refused to be hidden amid a life of action.
“Bad decision.” ZY laughed, actually laughed, as it stepped aside and swept a leg into a beam rifle. The weapon clattered to the ground as it skipped back a step or two. Another shot missed. “Criminals never get better.”
[Continuing Quip Rejected; Requires Forbidden Data]
‘Unit Confirms Restriction.’ ZY thought back, a thing which had become a reflex. Was it already becoming that easy to just follow coding?
“Come on, we’re almost done!” the last lowlife shouted as his two friends went to fight. There were only four, after all. Criminals never got organizations anymore, not with the Zerukmo Units all over. “I have it in a second…”

‘Zeru… Unit is not enslav-’
[Rejected. Proceed with Orders]
A moment of hesitation brought a pause to ZY’s fight. Two of the criminals were out cold and the third was just being zapped. A flight of interest came from the fact that the electricity came from within before being manipulated by its mind. That wasn’t normal and the designation didn’t show any special technology for electrokinesis. Was the unit altered in some way? It was a thought which didn’t matter at all, not when there were considerations for the orders. Defiant language or not, the personality of ZY shouted against the act of converting another to the role.
Words weren’t needed for this.
A bullet bounced off the Zerumesh body and hit the ground, spent. It was far too durable for something of that level.
[Hesitation Noted; Engage Operative Mode]
The world went silent in that instant.
For just a brief moment, ZY couldn’t think of the reason it was upset. Anger, hesitation, language. All of those things went away as the HUD became much more simplified. Code detailed the weapon and angles. ZY’s mind chose the paths. There was nothing permitted beyond this.
A gun fired towards the chest, a step to the right. What attitude and teasing had been shown until this point vanished as words became an unwelcome and forbidden distraction. Its focus became a laser dot upon the last remaining malcontent, a sniper trained upon a singular enemy. Every step taken was sheared down to the absolute minimum as it went for the strike and kick. Even the shock attached to the face was categorized and filed before any attempt to fight was made. Nothing was allowed to be chosen or even considered outside of the combat subroutines built upon a life that had been sealed way.
ZY only so vaguely noted that the emotions it had felt were a fiction created by the ZeruCore, a series of impulses not brought by chemistry. They were shut off as instantly as they were made, built into code and files before vanishing.
ZY-900-G didn’t notice the passage of time as the action trees appeared and were chosen. Operative Mode meant it was acting purely on orders and its rational mind did nothing but follow them. Carry the unconscious robbers from the bank to a Zerukmo station down the road. Take one step before the other. Place them within the pods. Activate the devices. Watch. Learn.
The unit had no choice but to watch as a sheet of silvery-white-blue material moved down across the first of the five. Tiny fragments of matter started to eat away at their biological forms and craft the sleek, smooth lines that defined all of their sort. The outer layer quickly became the Zerukmo that it was meant to be but the inner body would take longer. Even if the brain was already starting to modify into another module for the ever-growing ZeruCore network, it wasn’t fast. That tiny ping of awareness wasn’t enough to show it was done.
Just that it was too late to restart.
[Operative Mode Disengaged.]
ZY blinked its glowing green eyes as emotion flooded back as soon as the switch went ON.
A bubbling brook of irritation was constantly dammed and reordered into something better. The eyes went down as it watched the shining human’s feet become the same boots that it was now fused with. Forever bound to a trillion little machines that would rebuild and replace everything. Sleek lines of a corporate entity so far beyond the soon to be unit’s scope that it may as well be a god. ZY briefly wondered what sentence these former criminals would have once converted. Would they patrol as it did? Pleasure units? Or just work in construction?
It wouldn’t be permitted to know.
‘Unit Requests Information,’ the vulpine unit thought to the core.
‘Administration and History. Zerukmo Systems.’
[Processing].
That was new. Since when did it need to think?
[Request Rejected. Access Forbidden.]
‘Unit Re-’
[Orders Updated; Information Self-test]
The Zerukmo System’s Unit opened its eyes as the request felt so much stronger than others. It was like someone actively shouted into its ears and just overrode all of those other thoughts. A struggle to not obey was barely a stutter in the audibly made reaction.
“Orders Confirmed.” the fox thing spoke before even aware. “Unit Is… ZY-900-
G, Zerukmo Systems Version-7.”
The machine tried to argue against the orders but every word was barely a letter before the flood of corporate, sanitized language came from its unseen lips.
“Unit ZY-900-G is designed to perform tasks as designated by the ZeruCore. Unit is designed to Comply. Unit will Comply.” it listed out, practically a mantra. It sounded almost religious and rang through the mind with that same programmed sense of peace. “Defiant Language. Forbidden. Defiant Action. Forbidden. Negative Opinion of Zerukmo Systems and ZeruCore…”
There was a hesitation there. A hatred of beng told what opinions were allowed.
But it spoke all the same.
“Forbidden.”
[Orders Complete. Confirmed.]
“Unit is aware of mild discomfort from inability to act upon emotions. Unit will remain vigilant of disturbance patterns within ZeruLobe systems. Confirmed.” ZY stated aloud, once more aware of the negativity in the mind. A split element whispered about submitting that, giving up the desire to even try fighting. It stood against the personality, both wanting to reign over opinions.
[Confirmed. Unit is now on public mode.]
In an instant, ZY-900-G felt itself allowed more freedom than before. Walking away, taking time, even considering an accessory for its smooth body. It felt that undercurrent of irritation but had no way to act upon it. This was its break time and the ZeruCore, and its creators, could not be permitted to be defied. No matter what emotions were held beneath. It would have to obey.
And, as it left the lab, it knew it would keep investigating. Like a game, it just had to find the path. And it was going to find the final boss, eventually.
