I finally got a scanner, and just set it up a little bit ago! This was a color scanning test of something I drew from my long-running D&D campaign (I started it in 1996). These are NPC's my players hired in a recent story.
These characters were all orphans in a warzone growing up. Karkintas (also called Westpoint) is a small nation with no official government that sits on ancient and powerful artifacts, which caused the Black Throne, a neighboring empire, to covet the tiny island. The war raged on for over a decade, with Karkintanian independence ultimately established through pluck, determination, and use of ancient alien technology scavenged from the seafloor.
Johnny, the Human boy in the middle, was sort of the "leader" of the bunch, gathering up other street children so that they could look out for each other. Under his watch, they all fought in the war despite being too young at the time. They lost a few friends to the war, a few grew up and left, but these five have always stuck together even after a war and fifteen years.
X and Yazler are "lizard men" called Iguanar. They were slaves on the Sundarian Continent, a distant land across the ocean. They have been in love since they were children, and when given the chance, they pushed their owner overboard and crashed his ship near Karkintas. Johnny took them in when nobody else would look kindly on outsiders.
Arrin, Orrin, and Rodyne are all Orcish siblings. Rodyne is the oldest by four years, and Arrin and Orrin are twins.They were the children of indentured farm workers in the Midland region of the Sundarian Continent, but when their parents died in a labor strike turned civil war, they fled the country as stowaways aboard a cargo ship. They wound up in Karkintas, orphaned and penniless, and would have probably died had Johnny not brought them into his group.
The boys all worked as mercenaries after the war ended, serving under a local warlord named Ellen Astral. She was a tough boss, but the jobs actually paid, and they never had to do anything TOO awful. During a shakedown of some tourists who turned out to be the Player Characters' party, the players managed to give them a better-paying offer to work for them instead. They now serve aboard the Finders' Keeper, the same ship the Player Characters work and live on.
