Market Gilje watchmen at an Esrian market. While their service is compulsory, the foreign-born gilje don't make a big fuss about petty shoplifting. The hungry gotta eat, right? Fun illustration I did while world building my ill-fated Gilje/Esrian setting. Hoping to revisit it in the future though!

Mock Patrol "Good on ya, mate. Let's finish this 'ere ..." Some fresh recruits are doing a mock patrol in the endless, flat, featureless plains of Grenzaumarlu. Our lad, Dalu Surgaja, is hauling a field kit, wearing the summer uniform - summers on this region rarely go above 20 degrees Celsius - with an unfolded field cap and some minor personalisation in the form of two pins. Such small charms are allowed as they improve morale greatly. Was a random idea, but had a blast with this one ^^ + another excuse to practice backgrounds Hope you'll like!

Despite what one would assume, the life on Scalló can be quite eventless; sometimes months pass between large tasks, and the ongoing security jobs can be done with shifting skeleton crews. The others can go on a well-earned shore leave; some go back to their native worlds to visit friends and family, some indulge in themselves in the big cities with the cash they got, while some just kick back and enjoy life for a little. Helena is one of the latter; she doesn't really have anywhere to go; she burned many bridges in her life, and the Odraani Navy has an arrest warrant on her for desertion making things trickier. However, there are countless port towns strewn across Vasma; different cultures meeting, not two of them being similar. One of them stands out for her though; a tiny fishing town that reminds her of home; cold. crowded, misty ... not a place a tourist would ever pick, but she feels welcome there. From the suggestion thread! Mega loved the idea, had to do it! <3 Lush chance for worldbuilding, enviro stuffs, and adding a tiny bit more to Helena! ;3; <3 - PaintTool SAI 2 -

Odraani naval uniforms Enlisted / NCO / CO / Pilot 1. - Enlisted crew: wearing a standard jumpsuit, with the velcro name, unit, ID tags, a dosimeter as well as carrying a medical kit to treat bleeding wounds, burns and radiation poisoning. All on-ship naval personnel must carry their over-the-shoulder emergency air supply cases, nicknamed 'lunchbox'. The blue shoulder makes this odra an equipment inspector 2. Non-commissioned officer: wearing the same jumpsuits the enlisted, but with the 'officier's tunic' over it and an Idrian headcowl. NCOs also wear belt-attached comms kit, with a shoulder-worn microphone and headset. 3. Commissioned officer: wears a darker version of the tunic with wider shoulders, a corset belt with a document case and standard sidearm attached. The officer here is wearing a standard, short necked hat 4. Pilot: wearing the newest generation G-suit as well as harness for the emergency air supply in case their pilot pod is damaged. The helmet is a standard Odraani pressure suit helmet, with the air hose and comms attached to the side for easier connection. Given the cramped nature of the Odraani pilot pods, strict height and anatomy limits are enforced (max 170cm tall, no horns longer than 20cm, tail no longer than 200cm)

Shore leave + Letters Attached From left to right: Halu - Io - Anni New Kalazzena is a popular city to visit for Vasma II-stationed Odraani soldiers during their weekly leave. It's a bustling trade town, busy, loud markets, surrounded by narrow, steep streets. The city wasn't built with cars in mind, as all advanced technology withered away once supplies ceased coming in. The locals have very mixed feelings towards the reptiles' presence; some see them as just interesting sights, potential customers, some see them important future trade partners, while others see them as colonists barging in or just simply don't care. Here we have Halu, Io and Anni, a small team of SiozKtutlfenstür-stationed odrai walking into a market to pick up some food and snacks before heading to the lagoon, a popular place for the reptiles to relax, bask and swim. + Here are a few letters, written by Odraani soldiers to their families, with some insight what kind of people they are and how they perceive Vasma II. THE LETTERS Letters Dear Dad I hope you’v been well! Miss you and Anton a lot! How’s uni life traeting him? First two months of deployment on Vasma here! People said it will be an easy time but this is more like a vacation I swear, though I still miss Ansalla from time to time. The place is like a paradise; ocean as far as you can see, dotted with lush green islands. Most of them are unha uninhabited actually. The weather is almost always nice except for some occassional violent storms, and the people are really kind too! The language barrier can be a bit of a hassle, but a comrade is learning the language so it’s gonna be fine. The air took a bit to get used to, I had to take some breathing lessons but I've adjusted well since, though I do wake up every so often with a headache, which sucks. The local food is amazing!!! I’m trying out a new meal and some street snacks every time we get a shore leave which happens almost every week. I did gain a few kilos but I’m still well under regulation! :) I hope they start exporting the stuff too so we can have some together when I return. Tea, crispy fish, smoked kelp and stuff like that! The guys in my unit are really nice, made some budds already, we often hang out on shore leaves together. There’s a lagon where we hang out a lot and bask, locals say it's the safest place to swim as larger beasts can’t get inside. Not sure how to feel about that but so far all is well! Can’t wait to hear back from you two!!! Love you!!! Halu ------------------------------------- Dear Mother & Father Things have been really lovely here, everything is so blissfully calm. Feels like time has frozen on this planet, it’s such a strange mix of old and new. I just love it! The garrison is well equipped, much more modern than our base back home, they have a library, nice rec room and a decent sized sports pitch, even the beds are way comfier. The others in the garrison are all nice people, coming from all across Ansalla. I’m hearing so many different accents! There's a snake who’s also from Üzlarri, it’s nice to chat with him in Üzli from time to time. I’m getting along with my unit nicely, they are lovely people. We have a really easy deployment here, lots of free time, plenty of opportunities to explore the local area. There aren’t that many towns around, the biggest one is New Kalazzena. It was meant to be the sister city of Kalazzena on Mitleidion before they got cut off, but they kept the name out of spite. The whole place has so much history, it's truly amazing. Interesting customs too! For example, during group or family meals, everyone serves the one sitting next to them. It’s from a time when they had to ration strictly. After my service is over I’m going to look into studying this more. Started learning the local language as well! It's kind of like an 'outdated' version of geriosh. A little hard to speak as an odra and the thick accent they have makes it even more difficult, but you can get the hang of it. Working as kind of a translator for my team on our time off! How are things back home? Did you manage to settle that garden argument? Has Masi’s leg healed? Many kisses! Io ----------------------------------- Dear Sessi How’s it going Sis? It’s been two months and I’m fine, time flies. This place is alright for the most part, air wasn’t as bad as I was led to believe but I do swim a lot, I guess it must help. I’m with the gate security team, it’s nice and chill but boring as I kind of expected - we are in the middle of the sea so there’s not much traffic. I can smoke at least. My unit is pretty nice, got some calm dudes and a gal, we all hang out often. The atmosphere is amazing and I’m definitely enjoying it, nice, calm, tranquil. I’m taking lots of pictures around here, I have some rolls already developed that I’d like to send but I’m not sure if we can send any parcels out with gate traffic being so busy with ore and whatever research intel they can gather, but I can ask I guess? The locals are a mixed bag, some are chill but some are just cunts who don’t like us being here, if looks could kill we’d have died setting foot here. Oh, and the kids like to mimic us, flicking their tongues out as we walk past them, that got real old, real fast. On our first leave I asked in some random diner if they served any eggs and just received some stern looks, it didn’t even cross my mind that the Amvli would take offence to that, I felt like such a root. At least now I know, helps that I prefer garrison food anyway. Things are still peaceful at least, there’s been some shouting matches here and there with the locals but that’s as far as it gets, no one wants any real trouble. If you visit mum please let her know I’m alright. Sorry I didn’t reply to her mail, I was upset at the time, still am now. Well, you know... Just let her know im ok Love you lots Anni

Gotta say it was a blast to spend way too much time on this haha; it's an oddly fun way to vent, basically creating a bunch of punching bags and being mean to them. Had this idea in my head for disposable video game enemies who's only purpose is to be moved down by the protagonist without posing much challenge. Also they are all lizards with cute little employee cards and all their banter is about their daily lives, families etc. Not like any of that fluff matters after they get evaporated by a particle beam. Their lives suck but hey, hazard pay, right? - also a non-canon Elise mook because why not -

Rödlaizöjkle Irrni Mordijn Radio operator Irrni Mordijn of dreadnought Kamrilli! They've just initiated the jump, It's a slow day ... she should grab a cup of cav while nothing is happening. This is kind of a freakish mix of a sketch and a full render; was fun but I gotta draw something simpler next ^^ Hopes you'll like! THE STORY CW: Death, Murder, Gore Story Burning Bridges Written by Elise Heider Edited by DiscardingSabot A single table flanked by two chairs was all that occupied most of the ship's interrogation rooms. They were almost universally unused, but this particular one was occupied by a female skink. Dark brown leathery skin with sand coloured patterns could be seen around her mouth and neck. Big, amber irises surrounded by pale yellow made up her eyesight. She was wearing officer's clothes, albeit in very rough shape; dirty and wrinkled, with dry blood splatters on it, and the radio receiver missing from her shoulder. She looked tired, shoulders drooping down, posture slouching slightly, her hands in her lap. An expressionless stare covered her face, just as the only door leading into the room swung open with a deep, unsettling creak. Concerned, she looked up. A slender male snake had entered the room, closing the door behind himself. He was wearing an unzipped mechanic’s jumpsuit tied around his waist, and a dark blue shirt. His skin was scaly and almost uniformly tan. “You don’t need to worry, it's gonna be alright.” he said in a calm tone as he pulled out the other chair to sit down. “I’m not like the others you met. I don’t believe in unjustified violence, it’s against my religion. I got you some water. You must be thirsty.” he said as he reached forward and placed a plastic cup onto the table between them. She took her eyes off him, lost in a whirlwind of thoughts, worries, and hopelessness. The snake caught onto this, moving his head to try and catch her gaze. “I promise you won’t get hurt. But we need your help. What’s your name?” The skink didn’t look at him as she sucked in her lips. Her gaze remained stuck at the corner of the table for a long, uncomfortable pause. Eventually, the snake leaned closer. “I’m Jansé, Jansé Vindrenni. From the flight deck. Refuelling crew. I’m here to help you.” The skink offered a brief, simple reply after a small pause. “Irrni” she said in a shaky, raspy voice, still refusing to look at him. “It’s a nice name. From Grenalli?” “Yes” she nodded faintly. “I have friends living there. They say it’s a beautiful place, lots of history. Always wanted to visit it, but things never lined up. Work, weather, kids being ill. You know how life is.” he paused “You are a signal officer, right?” he pointed at her right shoulder patch; a green circle with a yellow segment on top and the bottom, inside there was a U symbol with a dash beneath it. He already knew this was the patch of a signals sub-lieutenant, but still waited for her answer.” “Yes … I …” she was about to say more, but her mouth opened just a little before regressing back to silence. “That’s good. Listen, I know you’ve been through a lot. All of the bridge crew have, but you can trust me, neither of us wants anyone else to get hurt. But you have to help us.” She looked at him, observing what looked like genuine sympathy in his vivid green eyes. The anger, contempt and disgust she had seen in the others were absent here. “I ... I already told you the truth. All of us did” she said in a trembling tone” I swear. Please, believe us.” “Irrni, we are beyond that point now. Let that go. We know the truth. We all want to go home.” he paused for a bit and leaned closer, looking deeply into her eyes ”I have two wonderful daughters and a beautiful wife back home. One of my girls was dating a pilot, a commercial pilot, a real charmer…” he smiled “They could be married by now. Who knows, maybe I’m a grandfather by this point. My other girl must be working on her thesis now. She is studying to be an infrastructure engineer.” his joy faded away as it was overshadowed by grief in his eyes. “It’s been five years. I … missed out on so much about their lives. They must think I’m dead by now. My dear Laonlé may even have remarried. I just hope she is happy. ... I need to know if they are well. Irrni closed her eyes shut, biting her lip a little. Suppressing her emotions as she anticipated his next question. “Do you have a family waiting for you, Irrni?” the skink shook her head, just a little at first. “Friends?” she nodded weakly “Do you plan on starting your own family?” she nodded, little droplets of tears pooling in the corner of her eyes “That’s okay, don’t worry. You’ll meet someone out there. I’m sure. We will all go home. But we need your help first to end this test.” “Please .. please I swear, there is no test of any kind! I tried to tell everything I knew to the previous guy! He didn’t even let me finish!” “Then do tell me. I’m here to listen.” Irrni looked at him, he seemed interested, with no sense of sarcasm nor mockery she could pick up on. She sighed. “These past four years we’ve been trying to figure out what happened. A six-month delay is rare but it happened many times before … A year and a half? It happened once. Three years? It’s unheard of. Something must have gone terribly wrong. They started to cross-check the navigation data but everything came across correct, to the fifteenth digit. Navigation was confused … until they checked previous records and saw a consistent offset. Our HMA terminal had a fault they couldn’t identify.” Jansé was still listening closely. “Go on, please.” Irrni continued. “They checked the offset and realised our alignment data was wrong by a fraction. We had problems with keeping the ship in formation prior but it was written off as the helmsman’s error. Propulsion engineers said they could fix the issue with gyroscopes. The problem was that those weren’t designed for such precise movements, so they'd had to modify them, but it would take a long time. They only have one shot to get it right as well. One poor adjustment and we would be lost forever.” “Are these the tests we overheard the officers talking about?” Irrni appeared invigorated by the notion that someone was actually listening to her for once. “Yes, yes! Exactly! That’s why they had to cut down on the use of power!” She looked up relieved, finally someone understanding what happened. Jansé looked at her a little uncertain at this point. It was starting to make sense. Too much sense. “If this is true, why didn’t they tell the crew? It makes no sense to keep this glimpse of hope a secret.” “I know …” she sighed deeply “Üdsali is ... was a very old fashioned kanpiu. He thought of the ship’s crew as a ‘unity forged in steel’, and that the ‘glorious servicemen of the Odraani Navy can deal with any situation, no matter what fate brings’. He wanted the crew to stay focused on their tasks of running the ship and her systems. That ‘promises are for politicians’. All of his direct subordinates opposed the notion to keep this secret, but he underestimated how quickly morale would fall. The engineers were so close …” “Tell me, how do you know about this? You are not in navigation.” He pointed at her shoulder patch. “I operated the intercom monitor, I overheard a lot of fragmented conversations. We put them together with the operators from different stations and shifts.” Jansé remained quiet for a long while in confusion and contemplation, his heavy, scaly eyebrows dancing on his facial features as he pondered this new piece of information. Eventually, he shook his head and looked at her again. “So … you didn’t know anything directly? Right? Tell the truth, please.” “No, but I’ve just told you that we heard their intercom! I AM telling the truth!” “That’s enough, Irrni.” “It’s the truth! What more do you want to hear?!” “The real truth. Not what you were told to believe. We know this is a test run by the Odraani intelligence. We overheard our superiors, saw monitoring equipment. No way Üdsali would be silent about a ‘solution’, it just makes no sense. We know what happened. All we need now is an officer to reach out to the monitoring station or laboratory to call this off. People got hurt. People got killed. They have to call this off.” “We can’t reach anybody because there is nobody to reach! This is insanity!” “People are dying every day. I know you are not okay with that.” “Of course I’m not! But there’s nothing we can do! I swear!” “Irrni, please. Stop covering for them. You are not gaining anything from it. Help us.” “I AM NOT!” she shouted at him as she began sobbing. She leaned back in the chair and buried her face in her palms. “I’m not lying …I’m not … I want this madness to end. I want to go home just as much as you do.” “Then help us, Irrni.” he paused to let Irrni calm down “Reach out to them. Send a message. You may not be in on it but can still send out a request to end this. Everyone will be forever grateful for your help. I know you are brave.” Irrni rested her hands on the table. She looked defeated, her body didn’t move at all, only her gaze was racing around the room, but never landing on Jansé. Minutes kept passing but the silence was only broken by unnerving, metallic echoes that sounded through the ship's hull. An uncomfortable reminder of what was going on elsewhere throughout the ship, where the crew were not as willing to listen as Jansé had been. The snake eventually spoke up again. “Irrni. Help us. Please.” The skink drew a sharp inhale, followed by a slightly more calm exhale. “Alright” she nodded with one hand on her face, her eyes reddened from crying “I’ll do whatever I can…” “Thank you” Jansé smiled gratefully, placing his hand gently on hers. She didn’t move, just looked at the lizard for a brief moment. “You are a good person. I promise you’ll be safe.” ----- The comms room was quite cramped, filled to the brim with radio equipment, analysers, recording stations, intercom monitors, cabinets holding various types of reels and tapes, all inventoried precisely. Irrni was sitting by one of the consoles; filled to the brim with switches, knobs, nixie displays. She looked confident at the station, wearing a bulky headset, currently busy operating the equipment. Jansé was sitting on a chair, next to what looked like an analysing station. He was watching her with interest, almost seeing what normality was on the ship before, people doing their jobs, having a place to belong to. There were two other people in the room, a young female snake, blue and white in colour and a tall gecko, his scales almost pure black. They joined to learn about operating the radio, so they can cover more shifts. Unfortunately, the air seemed to freeze with tension as heavy steps could be heard approaching from outside the room. A tall lizard entered the room, with yellow, leathery skin and deep sitting brown eyes. He either lost a lot of weight or was wearing an officer's uniform that didn't belong to him, as the clothes sat very loosely on his body. Definitely not up to spec. He approached from behind and slapped Jansé’s back. “Jansé! Heard the great news! Bitch got talkative? Finally!” “That’s enough, Lüanözza. Cut it out.” “Alright, it’s your gig.” he backed down obnoxiously “How did you do it?” “Just talked to her? She’s a living, feeling person, you know, … shocking, right?” looked at him in disgust, only noticing his holster now. “Should have listened to you sooner, fair play. I bow to your methods, sir!” “That’s ... enough.” “So what do we have here?” Lüanözza crossed his arms as he looked to the skink at the controls. His change of tone was startling. The ‘joking’ nature was gone, replaced with a deep, emotionless voice. Jansé spoke up. “She’s reaching out to the research facility headquarters. Direct calls and distress loops. No luck yet, but she said given the distances, it could be days before we get a signal. Been going on for two hours.” “How convenient …” “What?” “Stalling us as long as she can.” “Why would she do that?” “She’s just an ahaidon. Small fry. Nobody gives a shit about what she wants to say, and she knows that. If it was a senior officer, maybe. Or Üdsali himself, but that boat has sailed” he smirked “A distress signal is a distress signal.” “Fair enough” he walked up to the panels and leaned over the skink's consoles” So, Miss … what are we doing here?” Jansé looked concerned, the last thing he wanted was for Lüanözza to be in the room right now. “Leave her to work. In fact, just please leave.” “I’m just learning. Never too late for that, right?” Irrni finally joined the conversation, still busy adjusting some knobs. “It's ... it's fine. I got used to being watched over.” She went on for another ten minutes before she turned around in her swivel chair to face Jansé. “I was unable to get any signals .. did a wide range sweep, adjusted the receivers but no signal I can tune on. I … I did however record a long distress signal, reporting the conditions and the casualties on it. It’s on a loop, airing on all frequencies. I also directed any incoming calls to the intercom so if we get a response, the whole ship will know immediately, with no delay.” “Thank you, you did a wonderful job.” “Could I ... Could I have a glass of water? My throat got dry from talking …” “Of course.” Jansé looked at the young snake standing in the corner and nodded at her. She nodded back and left the room. “So …” Lüanözza addressed Irrni “you slot the authorization card here, put in a tape and start recording here right?” he pointed at various bits of the control panel. “Uhmm … yes?” Irrni replied in a concerned tone. “… and where do you send it out on a loop on all frequencies” “Here - she pointed at a smaller panel. “Aaah okay, now I get it, now I get it. Not that hard.” Lüanözza was looking back at her with disdain. At this point, Jansé moved up and silently pulled the tall lizard aside. “Lüa ... Tell me, what the fuck are you doing? Can you please leave? You are freaking her out.“ “Listen here you bwenni fuck. I’m-” “The fuck does my religion have to do with any of this? We are both the subjects of a godforsaken Odraani experiment and you think that holds any weight now?” “Listen” Lüanozza paused to calm his temper, ignoring Jansé “I’m in charge here, and the only reason you can play this little game is that I allow it. Don’t push your luck. Am I clear?” “We are making go-” “Am I clear?” “You are a cook.” “AM I CLEAR!?” Lüanözza hissed as he yanked Jansé’s collar. “Yes…” replied Jansé in a defeated tone. “Wonderful!” he cheered up and patted him on the shoulder “I’m happy we are on the same page, friend.” Irrni watched them from a distance. She couldn’t hear what they were talking about, but the overall body language made her heart race. She looked at the gecko standing guard in the room, and their gazes met. Both of them had concern clearly embedded in their facial features. He still made a subtle hand gesture reassuring her things will be alright. The situation was slightly defused by the snake returning with the water. The plastic cup had murky, cold water in it, the best they could get at this point. Irrni thanked her and took a few sips, getting familiar with the strange taste before she quickly gulped down the whole thing. The snake took the glass from her and retreated back into her corner. Lüanözza took a few steps towards Irrni. “Say, miss, can I hear the full message in full? Just to double-check it before it goes out. Quality control, if you will.” “Ah, it’s airing already but I can play it for you?” “Just pause it, you can resume after.” She clicked a button on the console and removed a tape from the same panel. Placing it into another machine before clicking play. “This is Dreadnaught 17-02-OU1-3-03-0218 of the Brallü Expeditionary Fleet. Calling Research station Zero, Urgent. We are experiencing serious system errors, food stocks are running low and basic life support systems are failing. Crew morale is low, casualties are high. Kanpiu Üdsali is KIA, no second in command took charge. We are requesting the immediate termination of the long term isolation test. Send override codes for the status lockdown. We need reactor control or we will experience a system failure. Urgent.” Lüanözza looked unimpressed. “Is that it? It’s a bit ... vague innit?” “It's a standard format. I didn’t want to raise suspicion.” “Why the fuck not? They already know things ain’t normal.” “If they knew about the mutiny, they’d destroy the ship or gas the interiors.” she argued, looking increasingly worried at the questioning tone from the lizard. “No, they wouldn’t if they knew we had hostages. Funny you forgot to mention it?” “I told you already! This is the safest way! Anything else woul-” “Record a new one.” “But …” “Record a new one. I’m not going to ask again.” “For fuck’s sake Lüa, enough!” Jansé interrupted. His usual calm tone was gone now. “Record a new one.” Lüanözza placed his hand on his holster. “Alright, alright! Let me just …” she caved in, taking out a fresh tape from a cabinet below the consoles then inserting it into the recording panel. She cleared her throat and glimpsed at Jansé to try and calm her nerves... But seeing the concern on his face, only made things worse. She clicked a button and began recording in a trembling voice. “This is D-Dreadnaught 17-02-OU1-3-03-0218 of the Brallü Expeditionary Fleet. Calling Research station Z-Zero, Urgent. We are experiencing s-serious system errors, food stocks are running low and basic life support systems are failing. Casualties are high Crew morale is very low, experienced a mutiny, s-suffered heavy casualties. They took hostages. Kanpiu Üdsali is K-KIA. We are requesting the immediate termination of the long term isolation test. Send override codes for the status lockdown. We need reactor control or we will experience a sys-” An ear-splitting bang cut her short. Blood, pieces of flesh and fabric erupted from her back and torso, spraying the console in crimson. She fell forward, as she was shot two more times. Lüanözza walked up to the console and leaned into the microphone, adding to the message that was still recording. “... this is Lüanözza Edri speaking. I am in charge. Every day we get no response, I will personally shoot a hostage. Junior, senior officers, security and other fools. Their blood will be on your hands and the burden of their families’ suffering will weigh on your soul. Release us now … Urgent.” He turned off the recording, placing the tape into the broadcast section, taking the same steps he saw Irrni doing. Jansé snapped out of his stunned state and ran towards Irrni, pushing Lüanözza aside as he rushed forward. The skink was bleeding profusely as she collapsed onto the station she had been sitting by, one hand by her head, twitching, the other hanging limply by her side. The third shot had completely destroyed her shoulder. Irrni was still alive, taking laboured, short breaths, interrupted by bloody coughs that sprayed onto the console, covering the keyboard in messy red. The moment her wide-eyed gaze landed on Jansé, it burnt a hole straight through the snake's soul. Her breathing got sparser and sparser till it stopped completely. Mouth agape, eyes staring into nothing. Her tail was still twitching for a little, but then it went limp, too. Jansé whipped around to face Lüanözza. He shouted at the tall lizard, practically fuming. “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!” “Made a better recording. Has a bit more weight to it.” “You … fucking sociopath. You wanted to kill her from the moment you stepped in.” “Obviously. She did her part. You did yours, I did mine.” “Her name was Irr-” “I don’t care. She was an officer of rank! She was part of it. Do you think she deserves any remorse for all this suffering? She had it coming.” “You're going to get everyone killed.” “No. YOU will get everyone killed, bwenni.” he haphazardly pointed the gun at Jansé -“You playing this merciful, peaceful fatherly figure is a massive waste of resources. Feeding, hell, giving water to them?” he pointed at the skink’s body. “Every day we are losing weeks' worth of shit we could be saving for ourselves! How’s that not gonna get everyone killed, huh?!” “They are people, not cattle.” “Debatable! They were fine with messing with us for years!” “They didn’t know! Say, what the hell do you want next? Return home with a ship full of dead bodies and carry on with your life as if nothing happened? Is that your plan? Do you think that’s how this works? They are going to execute everyone for mutiny, starting with you!” “We have proof of what they did to us. You know how sensitive the Odraani is to its public image. We are in a good position to negotiate. Our silence for our freedom.” “Are you a moron?! There won't be any threat to its public image if they fry the entire goddamn ship before we even get a chance to speak! Did it not cross your mind that they might not give that much of a damn about our compliance, considering our current situation?” “They’ll need to recover the research data.” “What data? You’ve just given them exactly what they need. They know the bottom line. It’s broadcasting right now on that fucking blood-soaked panel. They got their result in its purest form.” “It’s more than that. They’ll want to know everything … interviews, ship records, health checkups. They invested a lot into this test. They will want their results. No matter how many bodies they have to shove aside to get them. We both know that.” “You sure know a whole fucking lot about what THEY want for someone toting a gun for the supposed greater good of the rest of us, you know?!” Lüanozza was stunned, trying to find words. His hold audibly tightened around the pistol, his rubbery glove creaking against the grip. His eyes landed on the other two people in the room. They looked confused, sharing glimpses with each other. “… and what do YOU know?” he finally snapped back. “I’ve been making good progress with getting people to cooperate, till you come here AND FUCK. EVERYTHING. UP.” he yelled at the top of his lungs, pointing at Irrni’s body. His voice was shaky and pained. “Gods’ sake, Lüa, why did you kill her?” he looked at the skink, defeated “Why not a warning shot? She was cooperating! I promised her she wouldn’t get hurt!” “All she did was record a distress signal, useless. I learned how to do it in ten minutes. Besides, you shouldn’t promise something you know you can’t keep.” “You blew that junior officer's head off last week in front of the crew because he didn’t pull himself together in time. Because he was too busy crying. How can you be this sick?” “He was wasting our time. Bawling for hours.” “We've been locked in here for close to two thousand days straight, and now you waltz around with a gun in people's faces expecting results in the blink of an eye?!” “We can’t waste resources.” “You are “wasting resources” by making people drag bodies all day, or throwing up from the mess you make every time you feel like pulling the trigger!” Jansé looked at Lüanozza in a distressed manner, almost begging. “Please, Lüa, listen. Don’t go further down this route. There’s no need for continued bloodshed. They are people with families, children, lovers and friends. Have them speak on the radio each day, proving they are alive, fed, cared for. Reassure the researchers that we are still civilised. This is the only way.” “Why?” “To save lives. Please, I’m begging you.” “Wake up, Jan … it’s over. Your method failed.” he leaned closer to Jansé’s face “You wasted a week trying to get anybody to help us with your kindness, and got nobody of value to speak. You can go back to those fucks and play psychologist if you want, but don’t waste my time. If I find out you are up to something, you and everyone with you will get the same treatment as her. Am I clear?” “Please …” “Am I clear?” he pointed the gun at him from his hip “Yes …” “Yes, what?” “Yes, sir.” “Good, now fuck off.” he then snapped at the snake and gecko still in the room “You two!” They were pretty much frozen in shock, not daring to set off the leader. “Get this cleaned up, and monitor the signals. I want at least three people in here, at all times. ... and bring me a voice recorder with some blank tapes.”

Better Times Long Gone Odraani naval gun crew capturing the joyful moment of returning home from a successful pirate hunting mission! From left to right: Bei - Grünza - Enzzelmaiz - Kazal - Medolovonza The location - Odraani dreadnought crew quarters - and scenario - crew in uniform - made things tricky, buuuut I'm super happy I managed to pull this off! Still, think because I 'know' these characters and have a bit of emotional connection to them, I had a larger energy/mojo pool to finish et! The whole inking, colouring, lighting took about about were done in about 10 hours, so I'm really proud of myself ;w; If only I could be this productive all the time aa. THE STORY CW: Death, Murder, Suicide, Mental Illness Story NULL -------------- Day 0 We’ve just initiated the jump from Gjrana II back to Brallü. Our mission was successful, with our presence, the Gjrana navy successfully curbed the pirate threat. This is my second jump, still feeling a bit nervous. Can’t wait to see Amme again though!! Told Grünza I was hoping we would arrive in time so I can celebrate Tindriam with her but he reminded me that for the outside ‘world’, only a couple of seconds will pass. I know the concept but can’t wrap my head around it still. Should be 6-7 days for us. Heard it’s a common issue most crew can’t really get familiar with. Though it’s kind of an euphoric moment when they arrive and realise they missed out on nothing. We did the usual prepping before the jump; hull check, sensor pit check, cooled down the reactor to the minimum level. The main gun batteries have also been shut down for now so I don’t have much to do; other than the standard chores. Got some books, though I can’t focus out of excitement. Wish the outside view screens were on, really wonder what the stasis field looks like. Enzzelmaiz described it as a bubble of ionised gas, the same stuff that causes the gate haze after arriving. Basically the outermost layer of the hull, thin as a scale, gets vaporised and ionised and forms a layer around the ship. Odraani warships have anodes on them to provide extra plasma for additional stability … or something like that. We have all we need here; plenty of food, ways of entertainment and exercise, and the showers and rec rooms are fitted with sunlamps and there are supplements just in case. Best of all, I got the other guys’ company here. Thinking I should take some photos -------------- Day 1 Such a weird feeling; we do things as usual yet everything, it all feels different? Maybe it’s just not seeing the stars. Medolovonza put some glow in the dark stars on her bunk’s walls when we set off; love that idea; will ask her for some if she has any. Gotta ask if the other shifts are fine with it though. The others shared some stories about their jumps, Enzzelmaiz had 8 jumps so far, Kazal had 8, Grünza had 6, and this is Bei’s and Medolovonza’s second jump as well. Most of their stories were reassuring to hear; more like a vacation than active duty; not much to do so they got creative killing time. Made me ease up a bit -------------- Day 5 Finally won something at döal! Was more luck than skill, but now I’m 2000 meir richer! Won’t risk losing it, will spend it when I get home. -------------- Day 7 Last day of the trip! We got served some hanzalüni. Heard of it, never had it before. The guys liked it, but it really didn’t work for me; gave mine to Grünza and Kazal for their cav mixes. Medolovonza brought some sour chocolate for the trip, said it's a delicacy in Düsman Was absolutely delicious! -------------- Day 8 Still in the stasis field; had the idea of it taking longer in the back of my mind so I’m not that bothered. Heck, at least I can finish shedding. -------------- Day 14 Still here. Makes me wonder, how does the navigation crew know when we will arrive? Kanpiu Üdsali made a few announcements, telling us we may have experienced an unforeseen gravity pull and we might take five months to arrive. The crew didn’t take it too well, some guys got detained for making a mess in one of the dining areas. The rest of us are still doing the daily routine and chores, cleaning, doing laundry, writing reports about everything - even though the main guns are powered down Kept doing the usual drills, had gravity drive fail drill the other day, which went well, but the blackout one not so much, the emergency repair crew went way overtime. Most of the guys in the quarter have started keeping a journal -------------- Day 26 It was Medolovonza’s birthday We got her arran nut roasted crab by trading stuff with the flight deck guys. The crab leg was freezer burnt, think the cooks were happy to get rid of it Even managed to get her a day off duty for the evening. Still, it makes me wonder. I don’t really know how this works .. few seconds pass outside but months here? Does that mean you can technically catch up with your parents? No wonder they limit jump gate travel for personnel -------------- Day 40 Had the last of the perishable meals today, will miss meat. Cooks will be prepping dry-mix rations and canned veggies from now on. -------------- Day 41 Dry-mix rations are not that bad. Had a lot of stuff like at school this when I was a kid Enzzelmaiz is struggling a bit, he had a fish only diet before. -------------- Day 61 Kanpiu Üdsali spoke on the intercom that they’ll be rolling out new activities for all of the crew to keep us busy. Book club Art corner. (Wondered about the supplies, was told they’ll be using office stuff, and diluted hull paint) Music hall Theatre Language lessons Meditation sessions Think I’ll take the music one, could start learning an instrument; always wanted but never got the time. Now all we have is time! How awesome would it be to give a serenade to Amme?? Grünza went to meditate, I honestly didn’t expect him to pick that. Bei and Enzzelmaiz went to the book club. Kazal went to learn basic Walzan - his brother lives in Waüalza. Medolovonza instead volunteered for the life support maintenance crew. -------------- Day 74 Kazal thought about introducing a card game he learned from a classmate during his language lessons. It was basically about the process of elimination, to find a spy. There was a limited amount of rounds to get the right person without taking out too many of your teammates. Had a blast that night; thought Enzzelmaiz would be best at it but Grünza read people like open books. -------------- Day 83 Grünza is acting a bit strange; gone quiet and spaces out a lot. Tried to talk to him but he blamed the food? I just hope he will be okay. He’s been prone to mood swings for as long as I've known him. Enzzelmaiz is adjusting well to the meals. Seems more energised now. Bei helped him with a trick to squeeze some water out from the meals, that way the texture feels more like what he is used to. -------------- Day 87 Met with a junior officer called Hin; navigator. Weird to see officers mingle with the crew but I guess they are getting bored too. He’s a pretty sweet guy, has a ex-husband in Eldrenkrözno. It’s a small world I swear. Speaks with a cute mirli accent. -------------- Day 98 Hin asked me to sit as a model for one of those art classes - told me I have a characteristic snout! - felt a bit nervous about it but it went really well; there were 21 crew in that class; I recognized faces from engineering, the flight deck as well as a girl from ammo storage, both officers and servicemen. Always amazed how much hidden talent is laying around. Hin’s picture was pretty amazing! Asked the class if I could scan their drawings to show them to Amme. Most agreed though some were a bit shy about theirs and declined -------------- Day 101 Invited Hin for Kazal’s spy card game. He didn’t do too well, bless him, but seemed to have fun Grünza opted out this time, went to exercise in the gym instead. Day 158 Forgot to write for almost two months? Grünza seems to be feeling better! He started filming around the ship, in the mess hall, the common room, in our quarters and so on. Thought the intelligence guys will have an issue with this but they just told him to only film the common areas and it should be fine, and of course a review at the end. -------------- Day 161 Toilets on the D wing broke down; gotta go to the E wing now. Showers are still fine though -------------- Day 202 Accidentally saw Medolovonza and Kazal in the shower, “kissing”. He’s been courting her for a while but she’s always been very coy about it. Always thought they’d make a cute couple. -------------- Day 215 Getting better at playing the hrandzu! Can play a few simple songs with barely missing any notes. Grünza took a video of me playing Medolovonza sung for me while I played, we made a damn good duo, but sadly Grünza ran out of batteries mid way through Will need to try again and record it. -------------- Day 234 Food is getting a bit boring. There are 5 different meals they serve so it's not that bad. I miss meat. Canned veggies just taste of salt. Getting supplements to avoid sail-sickness -------------- Day 241 Celebrated Bei’s birthday today. Was a modest thing. He really seemed to enjoy the attention though. Medolovonza and I asked for some favours in the kitchen earlier that day; they made a sweet version of a dry-mix after the gang offered their sugar rations; some charamel cakelets. Was really good given the limitations. -------------- Day 284 Not much left from this year … I keep going to sleep hoping to wake up in Brallü. Grünza is acting a bit weird again, kind of disconnected? Tried to talk with him but he said he was fine, just tired. Kazal, Medolovonza have also gotten silent for the most part and they never used to shut up. Especially Kazal, he always had a snarky remark for everything. Now he ignores the best opportunities as well. Hope nothing has gotten between them. Poor Bei has been miserable too, has two kids who just started school a week before we jumped. Enzzelmaiz reminded Bei that his children are still the same age; he didn’t miss out on anything about their lives, only a second or two has passed. This kind of helped him feel better. Talked a lot afterwards about family. Think he needed a little time out as he offered to make us tea afterwards. Miss the days of us just hanging out in the out quarters, playing cards, talking about dumb things. Nobody acts the same now, maybe Enzzelmaiz but he is distant in general. Hanging out with Hin a bit more recently. He is taking this really well, he did mention once he doesn’t really have close relatives, but a bunch of pen-pals, and he spends most of life travelling. Got me curious about that lifestyle. Maybe once I finish service, Amme and I could go on a road trip? -------------- Day 320 Any day now. Wish we had a clue when. -------------- Day 321 A year in stasis My second trip and likely the last; won’t be allowed to board a jumping ship for 11 years. At least we’ll be in our home system. People who took up dance and music held a little concert today; with a play ending it. I hoped I could take part but I got nervous. The dance was a bit awkward but the play was really nice. They performed Hru-Ann-Krizghin. Sounded familiar but don’t remember seeing it. Hin confessed he took interest in me. I told him I'm married. Felt guilty for upsetting him, reminded him that our friendship is still something I deeply cherish. -------------- Day 393 Grünza has been mumbling to himself a lot, as if his boyfriend was in the room with him. I told this at the infirmary but the nurses said it’s all too familiar. The worst cases are getting pills but they have to ration them. Hin said he can put him on a priority list for a checkup later this week. Haven’t seen him much, think he took my rejection personally. Miss our long talks. Kazal is doing better but not sure … he went back to his snappy behaviour but his remarks are a bit more mean spirited now? -------------- Day 424 Found Medolovonza crying in the shower. she said she wanted to go home I comforted her, told her I'm there if she wants to talk. She spoke about missing the feeling of a breeze, and the sun’s warmth. The sunlamp and the mist from the shower didn’t help. Had a nice conversation about the regions we grew up in. She grew up by the lake, sailed ans fished a lot. She didn’t report for this evening’s roll call. Some MPs are searching for her now. Worried about her -------------- Day 427 Got food mild poisoning Wasn’t the only one; some dry-mix may have gotten mould. No clue where Medolovonza is. Hope it’s just her needing privacy to clear her head. Asked a barrack overseer not to punish her if she returns, he promised he’ll do anything in his power. Bei and Kazal volunteered for the search party. The rest of us weren't allowed. -------------- Day 428 Still nothing … I’m fearing the worst. -------------- Day 429 They found Medolovonza’s body in the rear storage area. Hung herself. Still had a headset on her with a cassette player looping noises of wind-blown fields The guys are devastated. Bei has shut down and was sent to the infirmary to be supervised. Kazal looked like he was about to explode. I tried to comfort him but he lashed out. Kazal wrecked a vending machine, got sent to a solitary cell for a few days. The quarters are feeling empty, Enzzelmaiz has gone silent and Grünza is mumbling a lot. -------------- Day 439 Still trying to get used to seeing Medolovonza’s bunk empty. We collected a few of her things to be sent to her family once we arrive. She had two little brothers. Fuck -------------- Day 441 Had a dream with Amme and Medolovonza We had lunch together, it was Ammes parents' old place in the bay. I didn’t know Medolovonza when they still had that house but in the dream it felt natural We talked about setting up a video cartridge rental business which was random, but it was nice to see them smile. -------------- Day 483 Some of the crew decided to set up a hydroponic farm in the front storage area. The quartermaster was dismissive as we still have plenty of food and air scrubbers, but the Kanpiu overwrote her refusal, saying it might be a good activity for the crew to work on something productive. She’s still kind of an ass about it, but I think it’s part of the job for quartermasters. Think I’ll volunteer to help. Hin will too. Not sure how to feel about it, but he assured he’ll pick a different shift than I We are using plastic food tubs, cooling fans and a waterpump from the spares storage, and sunlamps of lights -------------- Day 517 The hydroponics have seemingly helped the crew morale a little. Bei joined too, haven’t seen him smile in a while. Enzzelmaiz is doing extra hours in the engineering deck. Medolovonza would have loved this, always had a knack for plants. I miss her. -------------- Day 642 Second year Another concert and play. Was nice to have some fresh veggies for dinner, that even swung some of the initial sceptics to help in the farm. Kazal fucking freaked the hell out of me. Spent all night sitting at the table in our quarters and just stared ahead blankly. I tried to get on hold of someone in the infirmary but they were overwhelmed. 136 people committed suicide or murder suicide that night. Some others were reported missing as well. By morning he seemed to have snapped out of it. There was something unsettling about his eyes. He lost some weight so maybe that’s why? -------------- Day 731 There are likely more bodies they haven't found yet; there's a faint smell of rot coming from the vents every now and then -------------- Day 812 Grünza and Kazal spend their time sleeping mostly, even got disciplined for missing duties. Bei is hanging out with another group. Mostly family people, sharing stories about their children. Seems to help him. Enzzelmaiz is reading a lot, started writing his own book, a crime mystery. Told me about the premise, was pretty interesting I haven’t played my hrandzu in a long while; the music hall has been shut down as most of the people stopped attending. Never got to record that duett. -------------- Day 839 Orders came out today to start rationing the food. That made most of the guys uneasy … I thought we had supplies for up to 4 years without needing to ration. I’m worried. -------------- Day 942 Close to three years now … feels like ten. Most of the crew looks like shit; the hard rationing made us lose weight. We are getting supplements to help with the lack of sunlight and other nutrients but everyone looks pale and faded. The sunlamps in the shower are not enough. -------------- Day 963 Three years. Small concert, another play. There were a lot of empty seats in the common room. Found Bei crying in his bed, tried to comfort him. I just realised I’m starting to forget how Amme sounds. She wanted to send a voice message but it didn’t arrive in time before we jumped -------------- Day 1067 Kanpiu Üdsali rolled out an energy and water rationing initiative. He sounded troubled. Forgot a few but Weapon systems have been hard-disengaged. No more work for me Lights being dimmed Gravity being lowered in non-habitat areas. No more personal computer use in the common room - this has caused a small riot as that's where most of the crew kept their personal logs and letters from family. Üdsali promised to print out said letters which calmed down most of them As for the water, no laundry, shower only once a week, no flush after peeing, and lowered water pressure. Water treatment is top priority. Asked Enzzelmaiz how long the energy fuel rods should last. He told me the issue is not with the fuel, but cooling. We can’t extend the cooling wings nor eject heat pellets, so they need to minimise the reactor output. Reason we need to ration only now is because the cooling system has degraded and they can’t do external repairs. Asked how long this way things will last and he nonchalantly replied 10 years. The idea of energy being a problem made me feel a bit sick. Found some comfort in Hin’s company, I think he felt the same. Talking to him made me smile again after a long time. We kinda tried to go a bit further, we kissed. It was nice, been years. Felt guilty afterwards. He understood. -------------- Day 1089 The smell of piss is everywhere; people can't flush properly. Need to plug my nose when entering the restroom, but the air is still stinging my eyes and throat Asked about respirators, the quartermaster thought I was joking till he entered with me. Now there's a couple hanging by the door. -------------- Day 1210 The infirmary is running out of medicine; no supplements nor anxiety relief. The only stuff they have left is for treating injuries. Some guys got caught stealing them to get high so they posted more guards. Contraceptives are running low too. Shit. -------------- Day 1224 Kazal attacked a junior officer in the mess hall. Stabbed her in the eye and throat sixteen times with a broken plastic spoon. She died almost right away. She was a drannzü, like Amme. I haven’t seen a dead body in my life. Only roadkill Her lifeless body leaning on the canteen table, blood pooling in her food tray She was chatting to a fellow officer when Kazal attacked her. Smiling too. Maybe she heard a joke. No clue why he did it. He didn’t say anything. I hope she didn’t suffer much. They sedated Kazal and locked him up. -------------- Day 1225 Security took Kazal’s personal stuff to investigate. They say he’s unresponsive Sometimes calm then suddenly having violent outbursts. -------------- Day 1231 They found Kazal’s body in the cell this morning; cracked his head open on the door Will never know why he murdered the officer. Neither Bei and Grünza looked shocked, almost like they didn’t even register it. Security says they’ll interview us about his recent behaviour. Learned the officer’s name was Tallaua Had a chat with Enzzelmaiz, he knew I needed someone to talk about this. He seemed really supportive, even felt a bit out of character for him. Grünza has been talking to himself more and more, I have to plug my ears when we sleep. -------------- Day 1262 Stricter rationing policies, water treatment output halved, vent fans off; the warm reactor coolant warms up our quarters to an uncomfortable level. The air is stale now, I don't feel smells any more, but there's a small haze when looking down the corridor. Lots of dust too. Was told its skin cells. Makes me retch Hearing news of crews fighting, suicides every day. There are more and more empty seats in the mess hall in our wing. Heard that the A and C wings are faring better than us. -------------- Day 1284 New year. 4th one This is never going to end The corridors are nightmarish, dimly lit, dusty, and you see silhouettes of people occasionally They separated the men from the women in some wings as attacks increased. I still hear a lot of stories What the fuck are we becoming. I asked if they could move Grünza to the infirmary. Officers declined saying they are at full capacity. Tried to talk to him like I would to a child. Worked a little. Bei looked at me weird when I did, I think I tore open some wounds in him. I’m so sorry. -------------- Day 1445 Only one restroom is working any more, the cisterns got blocked or something Some just shit in the corner of the showers. I see stains on the walls and hallways. Either dry faeces or blood. There’s not enough water to clean any more. People use dirty bed sheets to wipe themselves. Some guys were caught using dirty uniforms and got severely punished. Can’t eat the D rations any more, it's a brown sludge. Makes me retch. -------------- Day 1484 Grünza died. Suffocated in his sleep. I think Bei did it. Feels like it was mercy. He had clear moments every now and then, which made it ever worse when he was lost. He was a kind man. Had a boyfriend at home. We didn’t do anything to deserve this. -------------- Day 1494 Bei told us about a rumour he heard. Said this could be a test by the Odraani Intelligence on how long term isolation affects us, and that we’ve been in Brallü for 4 years now. Enzzelmaiz laughed at him, saying its nonsense. If we were in a test they wouldn’t lock up a higher ups inside and we’d be reviewed regularly, not to mention in that case the reactor output would be maintained at normal levels or they could have just used a smaller, cheap vessel, not a dreadnought worth billions. I trust him on this, he works in electric engineering afterall. Knows more about slinggates than both of us combined Bei got quite annoyed, stating we are not the control test, we are one of the ‘anomalies’ where some issue is introduced, like a reactor issue Enzzelmaiz doesn’t take him seriously; which is more likely? A navigational mistake or a big experiment where we are being observed and monitored all the time. Putting it that way, he is right. We should focus on staying sane and healthy -------------- Day 1501 Feeling awful .. what if Bei is right? That would mean time is flowing normally… I missed out almost five years. Amme surely thinks I’m dead. Hope she found someone she is happy with Enzzelmaiz saw me and tried to reassure Bei is just trying to make sense of this situation. In his own way … people’s minds were not meant to live in situations like this, isolation and time distortion. We are in stasis still and only a few seconds have passed for Amme. She is still there. Must hang onto that thought. There’s even a small chance that she is thinking of me during those few seconds of travel, meaning I’ve been on her mind the whole time we’ve been here. His calm nature helped me to relax. I know he has to remind himself every now and then as well Bei seems to be unable to grasp the concept. Keeps talking about how his daughters are in fourth grade now, ending preschool soon and that his wife must have remarried by now. -------------- Day 1511 Spending more time in hydroponics, work keeps my mind from wandering. Not to mention the air also feels fresher here Never occurred to me where they got the seeds. Was told the canned food has seeds in them and they were still good to plant. Since then we started growing all sort of stuff, algae, mushrooms, moss and so on. -------------- Day 1516 Bei and Enzzelmaiz are arguing a lot He is becoming less and less credible as there a lot of things even he can’t explain Or just leaves the quarters when asked a question. That made me think … sounds nuts but that would explain so many things; even Enzzelmaiz admitted he never heard of a jump stasis longer than a year and a half. -------------- Day 1521 Enzzelmaiz requested to move bunks to a different section Got granted. He said he is tired of Bei’s nonsense and hostility. That it was Bei’s right to think whatever but he should leave him and others alone. Asked me to do the same and leave Bei behind but I couldn’t do it. Can’t leave a friend behind -------------- Day 1545 Bei introduced a guy from maintenance, he said he overheard officers talking about ‘running a test’ Other guys also confirmed it. Fucking hell. Bei could be right -------------- Day 1558 All the supply elevators are broken now. Makes further repairs even harder, can’t get some parts up from storage. -------------- Day 1583 Had a talk with the other guys who have the same theory Shared some evidence they found. Logs, weird inventories, one of them even saw a maintenance guy messing with a window screen. Dranza, a guy from the flight deck, told us he found a camera in the vents in his quarters but couldn't remove it. Showed us a drawing of it and it did look like a camera lens. Short tube with glass in it Will search the quarters for anything weird Didn’t find anything. -------------- Day 1605 Year 5 Thought they would end the test today I skipped the play, wandered around the halls. A sub-lieutenant caught me but he let me go with a verbal warning He looked like shit too; dirty wrinkled uniform. Looked tired and sad. Would the Odraani really treat their officers like this? I don’t know what to think -------------- Day 1681 One of the guys made a scene, shouting he knows this is a test and we are the lab rats The MP took him away in record time. Shit Bei is right They know Hin must be on it too. He played with me like a toy. Enzzelmaiz refused to talk to me about this. Asked me to leave him be. He is either part of this or is in denial -------------- Day 1702 IT HAPPENED Amme. Fresh food. Fresh air. Fresh water. Clean clothes. The sun. I can feel it. We are getting out of here finally. Üdsali made an announcement about some crew quarters relocation, to even the load on the grid. We had enough. All five barracks broke out in riot. Security came into ours but they were overwhelmed soon after. Alarms went off, non combat personnel were told to evacuate the vicinity. Took the barracks, flight deck, and the storage in the first few hours. Some of the security joined, got proper arms. Most of them surrendered, they and the crew who didn’t take part were locked up in one of the storage rooms. I saw them take Enzzelmaiz too, he was badly beaten. Lost his glasses. By the end of the day we secured all the outer decks. They took on a hard fight but managed to drive them to the inner decks. Lots of casualties, even with much of the security on our side The bridge went under lockdown and sealed the doors shut. Üdsali promised us a lenient punishment if we surrender and hand over the ones who killed any crew. Tried to cut through the doors but not even the hull cutters did it. Decided to wait and starve them out. -------------- Day 1721 Still nothing. Üdsali keeps making announcements for peace. He sounds tired. No wonder, they can’t restock food. Everyone is getting inpatient. Questioned the captives, some decided to join us. Some went on a hunger strike. Saw Enzzelmaiz the other day, the way he looked at me was gutting. We managed to shut off water for the bridge. -------------- Day 1742 Bridge finally decided to surrender to us. Üdsali asked not to hurt the junior officers and other servicemen. About 160 officers, security and other crew were caught. Some of the higher ups got lynched when they emerged including Üdsali. Lüanözza wanted him alive but the crew was too worked up to listen. I saw his body, but it didn’t really look like him, bloody and swollen, clothes torn off, even lost a horn. Part of us went to search the ship’s logs, the other half went to interrogate the captives. I went with the search party. Found a whole bunch of bodies, died of hunger or thirst. I saw Hin among them. I thought he was a good man. -------------- Day 1746 It's been days but they haven't found anything relating to our experiment in the records room or bridge. Must have wiped everything clean. The interrogation isn’t going well either. Most of them die or just break mentally before they say anything, denying the experiment. How deep does this go? Was told to help with a junior shift assistant from the gunnery. Didn’t recognise him. Must have been night shift. I agreed to be there because Jansé took charge. He went a different method. Instead of beating he tried to go on an emotional route. Asked about name, where is he from, his family and if he wants to see them again, that told him we all want to go home It kinda worked? He told us he has a mother and sister he needs to care for. Jansé told him if he contacts the research lab, we will leave the other captives be, can finally all go home and he can see his mother again. The officer broke down crying begging us to understand we are not in a test of any kind and we are still in a stasis field, that the only way we can go home is if we work together. It went on for a bit. I felt bad for him, he seemed desperate. Lüanözza got annoyed and shot him in the head with an officer sidearm They are powerful Skull blown open like an egg, collapsed on itself, brains spilling out. I threw up. I know he was a shill but shit. I’m still not good with this. Having nightmares. -------------- Day 1751 Heard that a comms operator admitted to this!!!! She asked to be escorted to the radio room to establish a connection so long she was promised no harm. Jansé promised. Tried for two hours but got no response. Lüanözza got impatient and shot her while she was on air to emphasise the situation. Added his own message and ended the broadcast. Luckily I wasn’t there, but I’ve seen the blood stains and heard the recording. Brutal. Lüanözza and Jansé are getting on worse terms. The group is kind of split. -------------- Day 1759 Heard gunshots echo through the ship the past few days. Thought it was Lüanözza executing hostages but the shots came from different sections. Think it’s us shooting at each other. -------------- Day 1772 Most of the captives are dead, apart from a few hostages. Haven’t seen Enzzelmaiz in the storage room for days now. I think he is gone. I wish I could have talked to him for one last time, maybe convince him to join us. Jansé is dead, along with his men. Lüanözza is in charge but nobody trusts him. We’ve been stacking the bodies in the ammo storage. It has the best sealing doors and self contained venting. Was told to help with dragging the corpses. Something just popped into my head … what the fuck have we done. These people were alive a few months before, spoke with some of them at lunch Knew some of them. Seen them in the art corners, performing at new years eve. Did we do the right thing? Did Kazal know something we didn’t? Had to be the right thing. We have families to go home to. We are good people -------------- Day 1824 Haven’t been able to sleep much since the mutiny happened. Maybe the officers were forced to carry out the experiment? Yeah gotta be it; why else would they be so reluctant to help us? No response from the outside yet. It’s eerie here. Quiet. Feels like a never ending bad dream. This can’t be happening. -------------- Day 1853 Bei seems devastated they didn't let us go .. I feel the same What kind of fucked up test is this? We turned on one of the window screens to see outside but it was just the blue glow Enzzelmaiz mentioned back then. It’s likely just a video feed played on loop though. Some guys from engineering had an idea. Could open a reactor refuelling airlock. Makes me wonder why they didn't try it before. Lüanozza reluctantly approved of the idea. Gazza told me the reason they took a while is because the ship is on hard jump lockdown and it takes an expert to undo it. Most of them are dead. -------------- Day 1881 They managed to crack the code and override the locks, tried to undo the cooling wings too but they need a manual override or external cutting We are excited Bunch of guys suited up, ready to leave the ship Someone suggested we could be in deep space with no observers directly around, but if they can go outside and fold out the wings, cool the reactor, they could power it up to normal capacity, run the water and air systems on full. Everything will get back to normal Power up the engine and go home Fuck Fuck Fuck Something went wrong. As soon as they opened the airlock something exploded. Whole ship jolted violently. Bunch of people smashed their heads open on the walls as they fell or got crushed by loose cargo. Lost any feedback from the portside engine bay. Most of the passive radiators are leaking or gone completely. They say we will lose energy in a few years. Reactor is now at 14% capacity. Looking down the spinal corridor, I swear the ship’s frame is twisted now. Heard that Lüanözza shot himself. Did they rig the airlocks? We are stuck here. Forever. -------------- Day 1889 Bei is sick, like the majority of the crew … no more nutrient pills. Only reason they lasted this long is that part of the crew refused to take them. Most of those are dead now. Teeth fell out, gums and skin bleeding. Acting weird. Sail-sickness -------------- Day 1892 Bei died. Had a high fever and was short of breath. Took his body to the flight deck. I am alone in the quarters now. -------------- Day 1926 More than six years Food is running very low, only getting a dry-mix ration twice a week. We would have ran out long before, if we still had a full crew. Now it’s less than a quarter of us. The rest of the food is from the farms I’ve lost 9 teeth, My arms have turned grey I don’t dare to look in the mirror any more I’m afraid of going home now. -------------- Day - All the common room clocks have stopped working, I’ve lost count of what day it is. I don’t think it matters any more Ran out of dry-mix food. Farm stuff not enough We are all hungry Some people started eating the wall insulation and paper. I tried, made me sick Day - Had some meat today.Cooked it on the coolant pipes Was chevy Lost a tooth eating. -------------- Day- Some say it’s been year as of today 9 A tenth of the crew is alive maybe Rarely see people any more Moved some plants to my quarters so the others won’t steal any. Placed them on the bunks of the guys: Grünza is a fhanna Kazal is some cabbage i forgot the name of Medolovonza is some mushrooms Enzzelmaiz is an algae tub Bei is a itrinni plant Also one for Hin, a grélli flower Dreamed of the others We were laying in our bunks.Hin was there too. Amme was sitting next to me. Had to be her .. I don't remember her face any more. Even in the bunks I felt the sun We were talking about planning a hike on Setten. None of us were on Setten before in my dream Kazal has been there, though. Second jump. Eiylassünndür itself. He said it's a beautiful city. Expensive too. I miss them. -------------- Day – few months later i guess Power went out for good. Gravity is gone. Fucked up the gang. Only one I could save are Medolovonza and Enzzelmaiz Air difficult to breathe Using a hand crank flashlight. Hurts to use. Moved the remainder of the gang to the reactor bay. Some of the coolant pipes are still hot No more water, I’m licking off dew off the walls. Some tried to drink coolant back then, but died days later. It’s dead silent here. Only noises I hear are tools, bodies, debris hitting the walls -------------- Day 4712 Found a clock on the bridge 14 years Lost most of my teeth, the last few are loose Head is pounding I'm covered in bleeding sores. My toes are black Tail tip too Hurts to move -------------- Day 4912 Been weeks since I last saw any crew alive I only see dead bodies floating around.Ghosts Seen one floating in my quarters when I woke up. Don't recognise them. Never do. They are hollow. All I hear is my echo. -------------- Day 4984 Last one alive. Must be. Ghosts everywhere. Freezing. Banged on the hull. Nobody responded. Hurts to write. -------------- Captain’s Log: Day 6012 This is my ship now Earned it Amme would be proud Zenril Addrala, Kanpiu of Dreadnaught 17-02-OU1-3-03-0218 “Kamrilli” I need the crew back on duty. Found 3 servicemen alive in the flight deck. Severely malnourished, ill, naked, feasting on a decayed remains of a fourth Ordered them get cleaned, uniform up and report for duty They refused to answer Exercised my right for court-martial and sentenced them to death for disobeying a superior. Gunned them down A Kanpiu has to maintain order -------------- Captain’s Log: Day 6134 Searched the warship for crew. Did not locate any. Most are impossible to identify Records before jumping state a complement of 4105 Took samples of the mucus. Portside damage is from manual override of ship lockdowns during stasis Reactor initiated self shutdown to prevent meltdown Sent fuel rod samples for analysis The following rapid cooling of the ship caused condensation to form, irreparably damaging records and terminals Bridge and officers' quarters show signs of combat, every bridge blast door have been damaged. Mutiny is suspected. Bridge has been ransacked, most of the records were destroyed well before the water damage. Recovered the black box, waiting for analysis. Batteries were dead, implying a full record length of 48 years Recovered the backup navigation tape. Heavy damage, waiting for analysis Ship still had an atmosphere after the portside damage, indicating the atmosphere leaked out at microfractures. This, however, would take at least a century. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lab report I: Black box and navigation backup tapes have suffered heavy damage from the condensation and ice formation. After spending a night on the town bar hopping, Kaleth, Neo, and Raiyk decided it was time to snag a hotel room. Along the way they grabbed the essentials at a nearby convenience store; smokes, booze, and lube. Then the scalie bois decided to enjoy the rest of the evening before calling it a night.

Here is Malo, writing away his weekly report. While it's a tedious, lengthy task, he actually enjoys it as he can finally listen to some of his tracks in piece, with nobody looking over his shoulder micromanaging every move. Gave some colours to this suggestion-thread sketch! Went with a 70's wood grain, colourful, off-white vibe c: First time we see a more civilian Odraani setting! ... though this is still a military base, its just not complete mess of walls and piping ^^' Was really fun! - PaintTool SAI 2 -

The pain. The misery. The medical bills. The deaths of people who got in her way. It never got easier. But Sabine always knew why she was going it. She knew, deep down, that it was all worth it. ... Artist's description: Been on a very art-sparse period lately; work's been kicking me butt, but I wanted to draw something fun and proper! Drawing a rubber-clad, vintage-geared Elise doodley (may rebrand it to 'Simpley') seemed like a good idea to shake off some rust and start artin! Hope I will be able to keep me momentum ;3; Love ya peeps! Thankies for all the support!! - PaintTool SAI 2 -

It's not hard to see why Riyv and Sereh have made this traditional bathhouse a frequent destination for their date nights. There's no shortage of great conversation .. or great views ;} Here is the result of the YCH Collab Auction that myself, Darbaras, and Feranta put up a while back. Thanks again to all the participants! We hope you're all happy with the result, we had a ton of fun working with your babes! <3 Background, left to right: Lady-T - Viryn Stickaroo - Cassiah 3033 - Astrin Pyrewerepyre - Sabi Foreground, left to right: Timpie - Yamihr Feranta - Sereh Nimtai - Riyvka Despey - Menaeve

Aurelia Lioness on the prowl! Scottieman Scottieman's Aurelia enjoying a fancy night out. There aren't as many people as usual; but it makes the atmosphere just perfect; smooth music, noises of distant chatter fill the upper level, with occasional clinking of glasses breaking the silence ... This be a trade with Scottieman I started ... a long while ago, with a totally different character and idea, only settling on this one 'recently'. Had to take a break from her due to art block twice, but I'm really glad I managed to pull off the look I aimed for! Was refreshing to do a different theme and environment, although the background did give me some trouble; got used to either industrial settings or open water/skies, so this was definitely a welcome adventure to the less known .w. Hope you'll like her! c:

Critical Fail Poor Raiyk; rolling well on mundane things, but when it comes to dexterity saving throws ... At least we have two healers in the group ^-^; Been playing D&D together weekly for more than two years now - not irl, over the net, because distance is a biatch - and the idea of our sonas having a session haven been suggested every now and then, aaand I've been dying to draw our sonas doing something we do together irl ;3; Was mega challenging not only for the number of characters in it, but because I wanted to get everyone perfect, while keeping the pic relatively secret :Dc I hope you'll love eeet Merry (late) Christmass mofos; I love you all <3333 ;w; From left to right: Elise © meh Sylar © McScrooge Raiyk © Feranta Nim © Nimtai Pandut © Pandut - PaintTool SAI 1.1.0
