Cream the Rabbit (Teen Version Prototype)

This is a fan art of Cream the Rabbit from Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. I reimagined Cream to be a teen in this picture, maybe as a junior middle school student.

Considering the franchise being action oriented, I gave Cream spandex shorts. Her outfit is based on sailor-styled school uniform. Her ear tips are puffy and curly to simulate curly hair, which I think makes her look a bit more matured.

This is an early prototype of the design. I drew this to find a way to use more realistic anatomy on Sonic characters. Cream’s head in this early version is closer to the official design. The final version changed to my own style instead.

Common name: Titan catfish

Scientific name: Silurus Lavida

Diet: carnivore

Silurus Lavida is the biggest catfish ever encountered in Elarium. It’s easily distinguishable from it’s unique saturated striped pattern and thick whiskers. It’s mostly seen swimming in the Lavida river of Qiadiorah, but there are occassions where the titan catfish swims out of the estuary, into the ocean.

What’s truly unique about this fish is it’s strangely brilliant intelligence. It’s one of the few fish that man has managed to domesticate. The titan catfish has a variety of uses; one of it’s main purpose is transportation and resource carriage. It’s sheer strength allows it to carry not only a rider but tons of materials on it’s back. It can be used as a replacement for a boat if you need to go on a quick expedition. Because of it’s ability to swim in both freshwater and saltwater, Qiadiorahian fishermen use this creature as a way of traveling straight to the ocean through the river quickly whether they need to get some saltwater seafood. It’s also used for pest control against threats like leeches or crocodilians.

While not commonly slaughtered for it’s meat as it’s difficult to clean and prepare, the titan catfish caviar is surely a delicacy of Qiadiorah! It has a salty taste and is high in healthful fatty acids that reduce inflammation. Not only used in dishes, it’s also a healthy snack!

While it’s an intelligent animal, it also has it’s boundaries. Wild titan catfish are territorial and will not hesitate to bite you if it’s peace is disturbed. It’s bite force is immaculate, supported with razor sharp teeth and strength that will allow it to rip you into shreds, making it one of the top apex predators of Qiadiorah. A photo session with a wild titan catfish is surely a dense idea!

I made this while learning blenders NLA tab. This was just a project to learn some new tricks so there are differing levels of quality in each shot.

If your reading this dewith, great model, probably the best free model out there, however there is a weird bug with the claws lagging behind by 1 frame and the hands bugging out every now and then. Baking the animation and offsetting it by a frame seems to work but I only thought of that after I spent 20 hours rendering );

For my fellow animators out there, here are a few tricks I learned while making this (I'm new to animating so most of this is for other newbies):
1. You can parent empties to 3 vertices and with bone constraints have bones "stick" to part of another model without hand animating it.
2. NLA tab is scary, but powerful. Only keyframe exactly what you need and keep actions as simple as possible, this makes it easier to stack actions reducing the amount of work you have to do.
3. Bake animations before rendering );
4. Learn how to use each and every bone constraint. Half of this animation was done procedually with bone constraints, with the internal shot being 100% procedual (I might release the .blend file just for that model as it is quite complicated to make.)
5. For tails do not hand animate them, you can get much better results using a procedual method. Here is how I did the tails for this animation:

Start by selecting the root tail bone ie "Tail.001" and make 2 custom properties in the bone tab, Name one TailFollowStrength and the other Dampening. On the next bone down ie "Tail.002" add a copy rotation and damped track bone constraint, set the damped track to target the next bone ie "Tail.003" and make a driver for its influence using the TailFollowStrength custom property. (Right click on the custom property and click copy as new driver). On the next bone down "Tail.003", you will add 2 damped tracks and optionaly another copy rotation. Set the first damped track again to the next bone "Tail.004" with the same driver, then set the second damped track to the previous bone "Tail.002" and make a driver with the Dampening custom property for it. You can then copy the constraints of this last bone all the way down the chain. Make sure each damped track is pointing to the next and previous bone. I recomend only using 2 Copy Rotations on the second and third bone, with decreasing influence. I Also recomend values of 0.75 for TailFollowStrength and 0.5 for Dampening. You can also use limit location/limit rotation and hand animation to animate collisions. You can also use this method for suspended arms/legs, however beware of mixing it with inverse kinematics, it can cause some unexpected results.

If I have the time, I might come back and polish this up.

Miracinonyx trumani, extinct north American feline related to cheetahs and pumas, this species went extinct 12,000 years ago.

 Miracinonyx, the North American cheetah, was a large cursorial feline from Pleistocene North America. Despite their superficial adaptations, they are believed to be much more closely related to mountain lions, genus Puma, and so probably did not resemble true cheetahs too much except skeletally, which has been reflected in the pelage of this restoration. The presence of this once widespread cat is believed to be the reason the extant pronghorn antelope is able to run at speeds so much beyond that of coexistent extant carnivores - it evolved alongside this now absent predator.

Notably, this species lived in somewhat colder climates than its modern counterpart, which is not something I have seen illustrated much either, so this one is stalking the snowy plains.

The art is a bit rough and not cleaned up, but it gets the point across.

A pink, smooth creature stands looking at the viewer on the walkway of a foggy ship.
A new entity type was discovered in a recently found Far Plane area. They inhabit pristine but vacant ships in a foggy waterscape. Despite primarily residing on the constructs, they were seen entering water and surface swimming as well. Several individuals have been seen interacting with one another in an organized fashion.

These entities come in several color variations not pictured here, such as teal and light green.

Several entities migrate across the Far Plains. They are one of the few entity types known to have color variations, all of which being pictured within this photograph. 

The newly-discovered wind turbines possess power lines. Researchers followed them to discover their origin points, but stopped after traveling 24 kilometers.

A new sub-area of the "Far Plains" area has been discovered. The entities known as "striders" and "kytes" are some of the few discovered entities that coexist in certain areas. There are no known intentional interactions between the two entity types as of yet.
