His insane wizard ancestors were all a bunch of batshit germophobe eugenists that basically holed themselves up in a damn biodome for generations and tried to breed themselves the perfect "heir to all magic" and they! Fuckin' failed bigtime!

Vincent Valerian Valdemar VIII has enough magical juice runnin' through his system to reduce an entire CONTINENT into a shiny glass surface, but since his parents were a couple of constitution-negative wizarding weaklings, they famously didn't survive childbirth (Valdemar VII fainted upon witnessing the miracle of birth and konk'd his noggin on the floor. His wife was so shocked she passed right after.) leaving Vince with all the insane power his ancestors dreamed of and exactly NONE of the ambition or direction.

Even though he inherited the title of Archmage, dude actually knows like- maybe ONE spell by heart (the bubble spell.
